Numeracy with Christmas

In the Tui room we have an advent calnder made up of the picture of the baby in the manger. Every day at mat time a child is chosen to come up with one of the teachers to choose one of the pictures to put in the pocket of the correct day.

The children love doing this and feel very proud when they are chosen for the job. This is a great way to get the children involved in counting and numbers as well as building up the excitiment of christmas.

Thanks for helping with the countdown Tui's. We are all very excited about Santa coming on Christmas Eve.

The Jolly Season

Shake it baby, shake it!

Some of our children have been making ice creams in the sandpit so we decided to make some real ice cream that we could all enjoy.

The children measured out the ingredients into a small plastic bag. This was then put into a larger bag which had ice and salt in it. Then they had to shake it, and shake it, and shake it! The children had to really persist because it took ages!
While we were shaking we talked about what was happening inside the bags, why we had to add salt to the ice, and what we thought the finished product would taste like.

After lots of shaking the milk thickened into ice cream. It was enjoyed by all.
