In our Garden

There are so many caterpillars popping up on our swan plants. Today Kate took one of the caterpillars off the leaf for the children to see up close. The children who wanted to hold one did, which was awesome. The children were so gentle with the caterpillars and we are all very excited about watching them turn into butterflies.

What a great experience for the children to be involved with. They are able to watch the life cycle right in front of them, what an excting process to witness. The children were so gentle holding the caterpillars, it was great to see them taking so much care and showing so much respect.

Our Special Visitor

The Tui's Learn their Colours

We throw the dice and look for the colour, shape or number on the mat. Our Tui children are great at working together to find the shape they need. They are also getting pretty good at looking for the right number or colour and matching it on the mat. This game is great for literacy and numeracy skills; while they are learning they are also having a blast with their friends. Go Tui's; you are too cool!!

The Tui and Pukeko Children Get Tricky on the Slide

The children were having some fun on the slide so Lorraine thought she would join the game. They all slid down a few times and then they started to get a bit tricky.
The children were experimenting with different ways of going down. Someone would show the trick, then the others would copy. There were groups racing each other, holding hands and asking others to join in the fun. It was great to see the older and younger children working together and sharing ideas. Even though the slide was busy and full of action the children were looking out for each other and keeping safe while having a fantastic time.

Volcanoes in a jar.

We found some pictures of making volcanoes in a jar, in a magazine and thought it would be fun to give them a try. The children helped to prepere all the equipment then we set about experimenting. It was fascinating to watch the volcanoes grow and spill over the jar. After the first one was finished the children wanted to make another one; we ended up making three and they all looked very cool. Next it was time for some exploring using the mixture. The children had lots of fun with their discovery time. Exploring with science is a great way for investigation, questioning, discussing and sharing ideas. Our Tui Team are very inquisitive and the volcanoes were a great bit of fun for some team exploration.

Stretchy Lycra Song

We bought out our Lycra for the 'Stretchy Lycra' song at mat time today and what a load of fun it was! During the song, the children need to follow instructions for lifting the lycra, pulling it from side to side and putting their fingers under and on top of the lycra. It is a great way to get the children involved in using their listening skills and working with a group. By the looks on all the children's faces it was a bit of fun as well. We put our Tui Teddy on top and bounced him up to the roof which was very funny. Great team work Tui's, we always work so well together.

It's Party Time

We were having a party on Friday so the children decided the place needed a spruce up. They set to work with the scrubbing brushes and some water and scrubbed the fence clean. I'm even sure I could see it sparkling in the sunshine! This was a great group experience, with all the children discussing what they needed to clean and checking out each other's work, and of course, we ended up with a shiny new playground all ready for our party.

The Tui band

The Tui's just love to boogie and today was no exception. We had the wiggles playing on the c.d player and the children started playing all sorts of instruments to accompany their singing. We had drums, shakers, guitars, xylophones, and castanets. We made such a racket and we loved every minute of it.
Music is a great way for children to develop their musical rhythm and knowledge as well as exploring their language skills and extending their interests.
Thanks for an awesome afternoon Tui's, we make such a good band together!
